Porcelain Crowns

Crowns are porcelain, ceramic or acrylic structures designed by Dr. Mark Arooni and our lab in the shape of your tooth to protect your roots by covering your remaining tooth material. Crowns are favored because of the versatility, strength and stability they provide. In fact, no other restorative dental device available today has been used more than the crown.

A crown is used most often when patients suffer from broken cusps, fractured teeth, large existing silver fillings, food impaction, periodontal disease and extensive cavities. Crowns are also capable of mild bite correction since they can help restore proper occlusal pressure (the natural tension or pushing force between teeth).

Like its name implies, a bridge is a dental device that Dr. Arooni uses to "bridge" a gap left by one or more missing teeth. By anchoring itself to neighboring teeth for added strength, a bridge is the ideal solution for teeth that have been extracted, knocked out or fallen out on their own. A bridge replacement requires that your mouth be free of gum disease.

Placing Your Crown or Bridge

Like most Chandler dentists, Dr. Arooni only requires about 45 minutes of your time on two separate visits to place your crown. First, we remove any existing fillings and decay and then we build up the tooth. Next, we take a final impression and insert a temporary crown.

This gives you several weeks to get used to the feel of the crown inside your mouth while our lab fabricates the final porcelain version. When we receive the final crown you come back into the office for a short visit where we bond it into place. It’s simple, straightforward and quick!

Depending on the location and function of your crowned tooth, we use various types of world-class materials. For maximum beauty on the teeth that show when you are smiling, we use Empress®, Empress 2® and sometimes LAVA porcelain. For added strength on your chewing teeth, we trust Vita® porcelain fused to high noble metal. We partner with Micro-Dental Lab to craft all of our teeth restorations.

The bridge process is very similar to a crown, but in-office visits take a little longer, since three teeth are involved rather than just one. Most people think of a bridge as a corrective procedure for a single space, but Dr. Arooni has successfully performed comprehensive bridge treatment on two, three and four adjacent spaces. It’s called long-span arch restoration.
